FAQs: What types of bridges does BrDR analyze?

Question

What types of bridges does BrDR analyze?

Answer

BrDR currently supports the following types of superstructures, substructures, foundations and culverts:

Girder System or Girder Line Superstructures:
LRFD design review and ASD/LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported unless otherwise specified.
·         Reinforced concrete decks on steel, concrete or timber beams. Concrete deck rating is not supported. Concrete decks cannot be composite with timber beams.
·         Transverse nail-laminated or plank timber decks on timber or steel beams. ASD rating of timber deck is supported.
·         Corrugated metal decks on steel, concrete or timber beams (only available for girder system superstructure definitions). LFD/LRFR ratings of corrugated metal deck is supported.
·         Generic decks on steel, concrete or timber beams. Generic decks are supported to provide dead load computations for decks such as steel grids, asphalt filled deck panels, etc. Generic deck rating is not supported.
·         Steel girders:
o    Rolled shapes
o    Plate girders
o    Built-up sections (angles connecting webs and flanges) (cross-section based input only)
o    Non-detailed sections. Non-detailed sections are defined by the area, moment of inertia and section modulus. Non-detailed sections are only available if the girder has been imported from a BARS data file that used the non-detailed section properties. (cross-section based input only)
·         Prestressed concrete: (schedule based input only)
o    I beams
o    I beams with a top flange that acts as the deck
o    I beams with no top flange
o    Box beams with circular voids
o    Box beams with rectangular voids
o    Tee beams
o    Tee beams with a top flange that acts as the deck
o    U beams
·         Reinforced concrete:
o    I beams (cross section based input only)
o    T beams
o    Slab beams
·         Timber beams: (schedule based input only)
o    Rectangular sawn timber beams: ASD rating is supported.

Floor System or Floor Line Superstructures:
ASD/LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported unless otherwise specified.
·         Reinforced concrete decks on steel beams. Concrete deck rating is not supported.
·         Corrugated metal decks on steel, concrete or timber beams (only available for floor system superstructure definitions). LFD/LRFR load ratings of corrugated metal deck are supported.
·         Steel girders:
o    Rolled shapes
o    Plate girders
o    Built-up sections (angles connecting webs and flanges) (cross-section based input only)
·         Floor trusses: LFD load rating is supported.

Truss System or Truss Line Superstructures:
Steel longitudinal trusses can be entered using the BrR truss command language and analyzed in BrR.
·         Steel longitudinal truss members: LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported.
o    Rolled shapes
o    Built-up sections
o    Channel box sections
o    Angle box sections
o    Non-detailed sections
·         Steel transverse truss members: LFD load rating is supported.
o    Floor trusses
·         Steel floorbeam and stringer: ASD/LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported.

Reinforced Concrete Slab System Superstructure:
·         Reinforced concrete slab: LRFD design review and ASD/LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported.

Concrete Multi-Cell Box Superstructures:
·         Post-tensioned concrete multi-cell box: LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported.
·         Reinforced concrete multi-cell box: LRFD design review and LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported.

Substructures:
LRFD design review is supported.
·         Frame pier
·         Solid shaft pier
·         Wall pier
·         Pile bent pier

Foundations:
LRFD design review is supported.
·         Spread footing
·         Pile footing
·         Single drilled shaft

Culverts:
  • Reinforced concrete box culverts: LRFD design review and LFD/LRFR load ratings are supported.
